Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality post-operative spine and orthopedic patient care with a Med/Surg focus, ensuring safe recovery and excellent outcomes
• Triage and manage Emergency Department patients during night shifts, using critical thinking to prioritize care
• Administer medications, monitor vitals and document patient status accurately and timely
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate post-op plans and discharge instructions
• Maintain safe patient-to-nurse ratios (1:5) while ensuring individualized attention and patient education
• Respond effectively to emergent changes in patient condition and escalate appropriately
• Participate in handoffs and communicate clearly at shift changes to maintain continuity of care

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted Colorado RN license (required)
• Current ACLS, BLS, PALS and TNCC certifications (required)
• Experience with spine/orthopedic post-operative patients (required)
• Strong Med/Surg experience and prior ED (Emergency Department) night shift experience
• Ability to work mandatory holidays (NO holiday time off requests per facility requirement)
• COVID-19 vaccination as required by state mandate
• Comfort working typical ED night pace and a patient ratio of approximately 1:5

Education

• Active, unrestricted Colorado RN license (registered nurse licensure required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid knowledge of post-op spine and orthopedic nursing care and common complications
• ED triage and rapid assessment skills under night-shift conditions
• Proficiency in medication administration, IV therapy and post-op pain management
• Strong clinical judgment, prioritization and critical thinking skills
• Clear communication and teamwork in high-acuity settings
• Accurate documentation and familiarity with standard nursing workflows
