Roles & Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver safe, therapeutic nursing care for long-term care residents
- Perform thorough nursing assessments, document findings, and develop individualized care plans
- Accurately administer medications and age-appropriate therapeutics, following physician orders
- Provide leadership on shift — supervise and delegate to CNAs, LPNs, and ward staff as needed
- Document resident progress and write clear progress notes in the EHR
- Participate in patient and family education, discharge planning, and care conferences
- Implement and monitor infection control measures and resident safety protocols
- React calmly and make sound nursing judgments in emergent situations
- Complete and maintain required competencies, certifications, and mandatory trainings
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity and quality of care
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN, ADN, or Diploma in Nursing)
- Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Alaska or other U.S. state required (Direct hire: must have applied for Alaska license before start date; agency staff: must have active Alaska license)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Clinical Competency Assessment required within 3 months of hire and every three years
- High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually
- Minimum 1-2 years of nursing experience preferred
- Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs and perform required physical duties of the role
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN, ADN, or Diploma)
- High school diploma or equivalent
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of nursing care principles: assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation
- Ability to recognize and act on adverse signs/symptoms and emergencies
- Pharmaceutical knowledge including effects, side effects, and complications
- Proficiency with nursing procedures and basic/specialized medical equipment (e.g., AED)
- Excellent oral and written communication, accurate EHR documentation
- Leadership, delegation, and teamwork skills; ability to mentor and orient staff
- Ability to develop and implement individualized care plans and reassess outcomes
