Shift Type: Night shifts, 5x8-hour schedule (exact start/end times vary), every-other-week rotation (EOW), floating as needed; alternating weekends and holiday coverage as scheduled (no call/standby)

Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform accurate blood draws (phlebotomy) for patients of all ages with confidence and compassion
• Collect arterial blood gases (ABGs) when CPA authorization applies and follow appropriate protocols
• Document all procedures cleanly and promptly in Cerner Pathways and associated LIS systems
• Operate hospital laptop-based Cerner Pathways application and integrate with LIS tools
• Provide excellent bedside manner and communicate clearly with patients and clinical teams
• Float between departments as needed to ensure coverage and timely patient care
• Adhere to infection control, safety, and departmental policies while maintaining professionalism

Qualifications

• Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) via AAH Certificate (required)
• BLS Certification (required)
• State of California CPA required for drawing ABGs (as stated)
• Proven ability to draw blood from patients across all age groups (pediatric to geriatric)
• Experience with LIS systems (examples: Polytech, Avalon, Orchard, Apollo, Prolis, BioTracer) preferred
• Familiarity with Cerner Pathways EMR and working from a laptop in clinical settings
• Willingness to work nights, alternating weekends, and holidays as scheduled; ability to float to other departments

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled venipuncture and arterial blood draw techniques for all ages
• Solid working knowledge of Cerner Pathways and common LIS platforms
• Accurate specimen labeling, handling, and documentation practices
• Strong patient communication and bedside manner
• Ability to prioritize tasks in a busy inpatient environment and adapt while floating
• Attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety standards
