Roles & Responsibilities

• Collect and accurately document patient information and charting to keep records complete and current
• Maintain medication and immunization records and help identify patients overdue for preventive care
• Perform specimen collection, labeling, transport, and Point of Care Testing (POCT)
• Prepare patients and assist providers with procedures, treatments, and minor office surgeries
• Administer immunizations and injections per provider orders
• Operate and monitor medical equipment including BP cuff, pulse oximeter, EKG, cardiac monitor, and manual defibrillator
• Support clinic flow by smoothly managing patient care duties and providing cross-coverage when needed
• Recognize and respond promptly to signs or symptoms that require intervention and document changes in condition

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) OR EMT III required (Current Alaska certification or Paramedic certification also acceptable)
• Nursing degree from an accredited institution may be used in place of the certifications noted above
• Experience working in a healthcare setting preferred
• Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills
• Ability to use electronic medical records (EMR) and basic computer applications
• Competency in specimen collection, POCT, and operation of common clinic equipment

Education

• High school diploma or GED required
• Nursing degree from an accredited institution may substitute for certification requirements

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient charting and documentation best practices
• Clinic procedures and patient visit workflows
• Medical terminology
• Age-appropriate vital signs and observation
• Life-saving procedures and emergency recognition
• Ability to train and mentor peers
• Comfort using EMR systems and medical databases
• Strong interpersonal skills for multidisciplinary teamwork
