Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive echocardiogram studies (Transthoracic 2-D, M-Mode, Color-flow Doppler, Transesophageal) with accuracy and professionalism
• Conduct exercise and pharmacological stress echocardiography and other cardiac diagnostic tests such as EKG, Holter preparation, monitoring and analysis, and cardiac stress testing
• Operate and maintain diagnostic cardiac equipment including echocardiographs, cardiac stress systems, electrocardiographs, and Holter monitors to produce reliable diagnostic information
• Accurately use hospital information systems for scheduling, processing, and correct charging of all studies
• Implement infection control practices and apply aseptic techniques and equipment disinfection consistently
• Provide preceptorship and clinical guidance to students from contracted colleges and universities as part of training agreements
• Deliver age-specific cardiac diagnostic testing across the lifespan, with emphasis on neonatal and pediatric patients
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and other hospital personnel as a clinical resource and team member

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) required
• Successful completion of a cardiovascular sonography certification program and/or a minimum of 2 years hands-on echocardiography experience
• Preferred: extensive hospital echocardiography experience and expertise in pediatric and neonatal echocardiography
• Preferred: completion of a Certificate Program in Cardiovascular Sonography

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• Certificate Program in Cardiovascular Sonography (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography and interpretation of 2-D, M-Mode, and color-flow Doppler
• Skilled in stress echocardiography, including pharmacological stress testing
• Experience with EKG acquisition, Holter monitoring and analysis, and cardiac stress testing
• Comfortable operating and troubleshooting echocardiograph and cardiac diagnostic equipment
• Familiar with hospital information systems for scheduling, processing, and billing of studies
• Strong infection control and aseptic technique knowledge
• Ability to provide age-appropriate care from neonatal through adult populations and to mentor students
