Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide age-specific preventive and curative periodontal and dental hygiene care for patients across the lifespan
• Perform thorough oral examinations, measure and record periodontal pockets, and document findings
• Deliver periodontal therapy, coronal polishing, topical fluoride application, and dental radiography
• Educate patients on oral hygiene, home care, and nutrition to prevent oral disease
• Manage patient scheduling and maintain accurate clinical records
• Coordinate and run community prevention activities including sealant clinics, Head Start clinics, and health fairs
• Maintain hygiene supplies and instruments, including proper sterilization and infection-control procedures
• Perform vital signs collection as part of clinical assessments

Qualifications

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program (Bachelor's degree preferred)
• Successful completion of the National Board Examination for Dental Hygienists
• Active Dental Hygiene License in Alaska or another U.S. state (Alaska license preferred)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 45 days of start and maintained thereafter
• Clinical Competency assessment required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
• High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually
• High attention to manual dexterity and ability to sit over patients for extended periods

Education

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program required
• Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
• High school diploma or GED (baseline requirement)

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of infection control techniques and proper instrument sterilization
• Understanding of dental and periodontal disease and appropriate treatment therapies
• Skilled in clinical hygiene procedures, radiography, and periodontal measurements
• Strong oral and written communication skills for effective patient education
• Accurate clinical judgment and attention to detail
• Comfortable managing patient schedules and clinical documentation
