Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to laboring patients and their families during the intrapartum period
• Continuously monitor fetal heart tracings and maternal status using AWHONN fetal heart monitoring standards
• Collaborate closely with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesiology and neonatal teams to coordinate safe deliveries
• Perform timely documentation of assessments, interventions and patient responses to ensure continuity of care
• Respond effectively to emergent maternal or fetal changes and escalate care according to unit protocols
• Participate in required competency exams, skills checklists and specialty testing to maintain clinical readiness
• Support patient education on labor progress, pain management options and immediate postpartum care

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license (able to practice in California)
• AWHONN fetal heart monitoring certification required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• DCI/BVP credentialing as listed by the facility
• Successful completion of Nursys license verification and other credential checks
• Completion of required health screenings and immunizations: COVID-19 vaccine, MMR, Hepatitis B, Influenza, TB test, Varicella, Tdap, and required drug screening
• Willingness to complete Prime examinations: Basic Pharmacology, Core Competencies, Specialty Exam and Skills Checklist

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required or equivalent
• BSN preferred but not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong assessment skills for maternal and fetal status
• Proficiency in electronic documentation and fetal monitoring interpretation
• Ability to manage labor support, communicate with multidisciplinary teams and prioritize emergent needs
• Comfort with per diem scheduling and adapting quickly to unit routines
• Attention to safety, infection control and regulatory compliance
