Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, patient-centered care to individuals with psychiatric needs within a correctional facility
- Perform behavioral observations and accurate, timely documentation that directly impacts patient safety and treatment planning
- Use de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention skills to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff
- Assist clinical team members with therapeutic activities, movement, and daily living needs to support recovery and stability
- Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary staff, participating in team meetings and handoffs to ensure continuity of care
- Follow facility policies and safety protocols, contributing to a culture of security and professional standards
Qualifications
- Active Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) license in California required
- Newly licensed clinicians are welcome; position includes a two-week training period
- Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification required or must obtain upon hire
- Ability to pass background checks and meet correctional facility clearance requirements
- Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and experience or training in behavioral health preferred
- Willingness to work scheduled evenings and weekends as listed
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent plus completion of an approved LPT program or equivalent training
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of psychiatric care principles and behavioral health interventions
- Skillful use of de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques
- Accurate clinical documentation and observation skills
- Ability to follow treatment plans and safely assist with ADLs
- Effective communication and teamwork within a multidisciplinary setting
- Familiarity with correctional facility safety protocols is a plus
