Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, patient-centered nursing care for laboring patients from admission through delivery
• Monitor maternal and fetal status using fetal monitoring and clinical assessment
• Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesia, and neonatal teams to coordinate care
• Educate patients and families about labor progress, pain management options, and postpartum expectations
• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely
• Respond promptly to changes in patient condition and escalate concerns appropriately
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement and safety initiatives

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license in Louisiana (required)
• Minimum clinical experience in Labor and Delivery preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Fetal monitoring competency and experience strongly preferred
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical environment and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
• Ability to complete required orientation and any facility onboarding

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong assessment skills for maternal and fetal status
• Proficiency in electronic medical record documentation
• Skilled in intermittent and continuous fetal monitoring interpretation
• Excellent communication and patient education skills
• Calm, decisive critical thinking during labor and delivery events
• Teamwork and ability to coordinate care with multiple disciplines
