Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, compassionate nursing care to adult medical-surgical patients
• Assess patient status and respond to changes in condition with sound clinical judgment
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to create and implement patient care plans
• Document assessments, interventions and patient responses in the medical record
• Provide patient and family education to support recovery and safe discharge
• Advocate for patient needs and promote a culture of safety and respect
• Support unit efficiency by assisting with admissions, discharges and transitions of care

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana or compact privileges as applicable
• Experience or training in Medical-Surgical nursing (Med/Surg) — comfortable managing adult medical patients
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; additional certifications may be encouraged
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking and communication skills
• Ability to work independently on per diem shifts and collaborate with unit staff

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid knowledge of medical-surgical nursing principles and best practices
• Proficiency with medication administration and IV therapies
• Skilled in patient assessment, monitoring and documentation
• Familiarity with electronic medical records and charting
• Effective communication and teamwork in a busy acute care setting
• Time management and prioritization during 12.5-hour clinical shifts
