Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams and Separation Health Assessments with compassion and clarity
• Conduct interview-based evaluations and focused physical exams including range of motion and muscle strength testing
• Complete standardized Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs) in the VES provider portal within 48 hours of the exam
• Use a goniometer and perform METs testing as clinically indicated
• Review medical records and incorporate findings into standardized forms (no narrative reports required)
• Prepare follow-up administrative documentation such as addendums and medical opinions when needed
• Work collaboratively with Report Analysts and the VES team during onboarding and case handoffs
• Adhere to non-treatment assessment scope — these are evaluative exams only (no prescribing or ongoing treatment)

Qualifications

• Active, unrestricted physician license in the state(s) where you will evaluate Veterans
• Background in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery, or general medicine experience with C&P exams preferred
• Comfort with non-treatment assessments and familiarity with musculoskeletal, diabetes, and cardiovascular presentations
• Proficiency in METs testing and evaluating respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological conditions
• Ability to use a goniometer and perform range of motion and muscle strength testing
• Willingness to complete DMA certification once privileged (training and CME available)
• Comfort using a personal laptop (Windows required; NO MACs) and completing evaluations in an online provider portal
• Reliable record-keeping skills and ability to submit DBQs and required documentation within required timeframes

Education

• MD or DO (or equivalent medical degree) with relevant post-graduate training

Knowledge & Skills

• Compensation & Pension (C&P) exam processes and DBQ completion
• Musculoskeletal assessment and use of goniometer
• Clinical evaluation of diabetes, cardiovascular, respiratory, and neurological conditions
• METs testing and interpretation
• Medical record review and clinical documentation for disability evaluations
• Familiarity with provider portals and secure web-based reporting systems
• Strong interview skills for focused history-taking in a non-treatment, evaluative context
• Ability to prepare concise addendums and medical opinions when required
