Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based obstetric nursing care to laboring and postpartum patients
• Monitor maternal and fetal status, interpret fetal monitoring, and escalate concerns promptly
• Float to Med/Surg as needed, delivering safe, high-quality care across patient populations
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and execute individualized care plans
• Educate patients and families on prenatal, labor, delivery, and postpartum care
• Respond effectively to obstetric and medical emergencies following facility protocols
• Document patient care accurately in the electronic medical record and support smooth handoffs

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Iowa or compact RN license as applicable
• Experience in Obstetrics and Medical-Surgical nursing; comfortable floating between units
• Current BLS certification required; NRP or ACLS preferred
• Ability to work night shifts and maintain situational awareness during high-acuity events
• Strong communication skills and a team-first attitude
• Reliable, professional, and committed to patient-centered care

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Nursing diploma required; BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Labor and delivery procedures, postpartum care, and newborn assessments
• Fetal heart monitoring interpretation and electronic fetal monitoring (EFM) systems
• Med/Surg principles for safe patient assessments and interventions
• Triage, patient education, and discharge planning
• Proficiency with common hospital EMR systems and accurate clinical documentation
• Clinical decision-making in urgent and emergent situations
