Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM; schedule includes 4 weekend shifts per 4 weeks, holiday coverage per unit rotation; may be placed on standby and required to float between Neuro ICU, other ICU floors, and Telemetry (tele float may carry a 4:1 load)

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert, compassionate neuro-critical care for complex neurosurgical and trauma patients in a 32-bed Neuro ICU
- Perform thorough neurologic assessments and monitor/manage intracranial pressure (ICP) and external ventricular drains (EVDs)
- Manage mechanical ventilation and coordinate care with Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy (both available 24/7)
- Provide central line care, Foley catheter insertion/management, and maintain sterile technique during procedures
- Monitor patients on Phillips telemetry and adjust care as needed when floated to Telemetry units
- Document clinical care accurately in Cerner and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
- Participate in SIMs Lab (skills validation) and complete required competency checks (lifts, restraints, wound care)
- Serve as a charge resource when assigned (charge nurse does not take patients) and support unit staffing needs
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (eligible to submit for Arizona)
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience in a large (450+ bed) facility
- Level 1 Trauma experience required
- Demonstrated EVD experience and strong ICP monitoring skills (must have EVD experience)
- 3–6 months prior travel nurse experience preferred
- Able to pass DYS exam and required SIMs Lab skills (pass/fail)
- Valid driver's license (50-mile radius rule applies) and travel teams must have their own vehicle
- Facility requirements: natural hair color, no facial piercings; men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
Education
- Active RN license required (Arizona)
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — BSN preferred where applicable
Knowledge & Skills
- Advanced neuro assessment and neurosurgical patient care
- ICP monitoring and EVD management
- Mechanical ventilator management and working with RT teams
- Telemetry monitoring (Phillips) and managing higher tele loads when floated
- Central line dressing changes and port-a-cath/central access familiarity
- Foley catheter insertion and urinary management
- Strong sterile technique and infection prevention practices
- Proficient clinical documentation in Cerner and effective interdisciplinary communication
