Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality medical-surgical nursing care to assigned patients with professionalism and compassion
• Rapidly assess and triage ED patients when they arrive and effectively transition between med-surg and emergency duties
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement individualized patient plans of care
• Perform thorough patient assessments, document findings, and escalate concerns promptly
• Manage patient flow by supporting both med-surg and ED needs when census or acuity requires
• Participate in required competency testing and skills checklists to maintain clinical excellence
• Contribute to a safe, efficient unit by adhering to infection control, medication safety, and hospital policies

Qualifications

• Active RN license (state license verification required)
• Current BLS, PALS, ACLS, TNCC, and NIHSS certifications
• Experience with 12-hour shifts and med-surg nursing
• Comfortable with ED cross-cover responsibilities and rapid patient assessment
• Completion of facility-specific competency testing (Trinity Specialty Specific Competency Testing and Trinity Skills Checklist)
• Ability to pass required health screenings and verifications (fit test, drug screen, immunizations, TB test or IGRA, etc.)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong medical-surgical nursing knowledge and assessment skills
• Emergency department triage and stabilization experience
• Ability to manage mixed acuity patients and prioritize care
• Proficient in documentation, medication administration, and clinical decision-making
• Familiarity with hospital competency testing and skills validation processes
• Team-oriented communication and collaboration skills
