Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality medical-surgical and emergency nursing care to adult patients
• Assess and monitor patient condition, intervening promptly for changes in status
• Triage incoming ED patients and transition to ER care when required
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing colleagues, and support staff to deliver coordinated care
• Document assessments, treatments and patient responses accurately in the medical record
• Participate in unit-specific competency testing and skills checklists to maintain clinical excellence
• Support safe patient flow and staffing (ADC around 3) while balancing MS and ED needs

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Iowa) or eligible for Iowa licensure; license verification required
• Current BLS, PALS and ACLS certifications
• TNCC and NIHSS certifications required
• Medical-surgical and emergency nursing experience; comfortable rotating between MS and ER duties
• Up-to-date fit test, immunizations, and required health screenings as listed (drug screen, TB test or IGRA, COVID-19 vaccine, etc.)

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN) — must hold active RN credential

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong triage and emergency assessment skills
• Solid medical-surgical nursing knowledge and patient care practices
• Ability to prioritize, multitask and respond calmly in emergent situations
• Proficiency with clinical documentation and following unit competency checklists
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills for smooth handoffs between MS and ED
