Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and triage incoming emergency patients quickly and accurately to prioritize care
• Provide high-quality Med-Surg nursing care for assigned patients while maintaining safe staffing ratios
• Transition seamlessly between Med-Surg and ED care when emergencies arise to ensure continuity
• Administer medications, monitor patient responses, and document care in the electronic record
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient-centered plans
• Maintain readiness for emergency procedures and use of critical care equipment
• Participate in holiday and weekend rotations and contribute to a positive unit culture
• Complete required competency testing and maintain currency on specialty skills

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (able to practice in Iowa)
• Required certifications: BLS, PALS, ACLS, TNCC, NIHSS
• Successful completion of Trinity Specialty Specific Competency Testing and Trinity Skills Checklist
• Ability to pass pre-employment requirements: fit test, drug screen, immunizations and health screenings
• Comfortable working 12-hour night shifts, weekends (every 3rd F/S/S) and holiday rotations
• Strong clinical assessment, triage, and critical-thinking skills

Knowledge & Skills

• Emergency Department triage and acute patient assessment
• Med-Surg nursing care and post-admission management
• Ability to manage multiple patients and prioritize in high-acuity situations
• Proficient documentation skills and familiarity with electronic health records
• Teamwork, clear communication, and patient-family education
• Basic and advanced life support interventions and emergency protocols
