Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain the sterile field and surgical instruments to ensure patient safety
• Assist surgeons and surgical team by passing instruments and anticipating needs during procedures
• Verify instrumentation and supplies before and after cases, ensuring accurate counts and documentation
• Adhere to aseptic technique and infection control policies to protect patients and staff
• Collaborate with nursing and perioperative staff to coordinate case flow and efficient turnover
• Participate in orientation and site-specific training to meet facility standards

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or completion of an accredited surgical technology program preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or obtained upon hire
• Prior OR experience preferred; comfort with instrument handling and sterile technique
• Ability to pass facility background checks and any required health screenings
• Reliable, professional, and team-oriented with strong communication skills

Education

• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent training
• High school diploma or GED

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in sterile processing and instrumentation used in common surgical procedures
• Knowledge of aseptic technique, OR safety protocols, and surgical counting procedures
• Ability to anticipate surgical team needs and manage instruments efficiently
• Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and ability to work in fast-paced OR settings
• Comfortable using basic electronic documentation systems for case notes and counts
