Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care for patients in the Step-Down Unit
• Perform thorough patient assessments and communicate changes in condition promptly
• Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments safely and accurately
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement care plans
• Monitor telemetry and other clinical data, intervening as needed to keep patients stable
• Document patient care thoroughly and maintain accurate clinical records
• Educate patients and families about diagnosis, treatment plans, and discharge instructions
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement and patient safety initiatives

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana or compact license eligibility
• Current BLS certification; ACLS preferred or obtainable upon hire
• Previous experience in acute care, step-down, telemetry, or ICU settings preferred
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and patient prioritization skills
• Ability to work 12.5-hour shift blocks and adapt to unit staffing needs
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency in patient monitoring and telemetry interpretation
• Skilled at IV insertion/management and medication administration
• Comfortable with post-procedure and step-down patient care
• Strong clinical judgment and ability to escalate concerns appropriately
• Ability to document accurately in electronic medical records and follow unit protocols
• Compassionate bedside manner and patient education skills
