Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform manual CBCs and manual differentials accurately and timely to support patient care
• Process and accession specimens, ensuring correct labeling, handling and documentation
• Conduct macroscopic and microscopic urinalyses with attention to detail
• Operate and perform basic maintenance and quality control on automated instruments
• Maintain QC records and follow lab protocols to ensure test reliability
• Troubleshoot basic instrument issues and perform routine upkeep to minimize downtime
• Serve as the sole CLS on night shift, managing workflow for a low-volume night laboratory (approx. 20–25 specimens/shift)
• Participate in call rotations and provide reliable coverage when needed

Qualifications

• Valid state clinical laboratory license (required)
• ASCP-MLS certification (required)
• Minimum 1 year hospital clinical laboratory experience required; 5 years preferred
• Experience with manual CBC, manual differential and manual sed rate
• Experience with specimen accessioning and specimen processing/handling
• Competence in macroscopic and microscopic urinalysis
• Comfort working independently as the only CLS on night shift
• COVID-19 vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions only); flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only)
• Ability to wear any-color scrubs without logos or patterns

Knowledge & Skills

• Hands-on experience with automated instrument use and basic instrument maintenance
• Quality control procedures and documentation
• Familiarity with hematology/coagulation testing workflows
• Specimen accessioning and processing best practices
• Microscopic urinalysis techniques
• Preferred familiarity with Roche Cobas and Sysmex XM analyzers
• Charting system experience preferred (Epic mentioned)
