Roles & Responsibilities

Provide high-quality, compassionate nursing care to patients in the Step-Down Unit
Assess and monitor patient status, documenting changes and escalating concerns promptly
Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care
Administer medications and treatments safely and according to facility policies
Educate patients and families about care plans, procedures, and discharge instructions
Maintain accurate, timely documentation and participate in unit quality and safety initiatives

Qualifications

Registered Nurse (RN) credential required
Experience or interest in SDU/step-down level care
Current state nursing license as required for practice
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification expected (facility may require additional certifications)
Strong clinical assessment skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced unit

Education

Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ASN/BSN) preferred or equivalent nursing education

Knowledge & Skills

Clinical assessment and critical thinking tailored to step-down patients
Familiarity with monitoring equipment and documentation best practices
Effective communication and teamwork within multidisciplinary teams
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time during 12.5-hour shifts
Commitment to patient-centered care and safety protocols
