Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-acuity critical care to adult and geriatric patients in a level I trauma and burn center
• Manage ventilated patients and perform advanced respiratory support including BiPAP, CPAP, HFNC, and ABG interpretation
• Titrate vasoactive drips and manage continuous IV sedation safely and confidently
• Monitor invasive lines and devices including arterial lines, central lines, PICCs, and PA/Swan Ganz when needed
• Deliver blood product administration and advanced IV therapy with strict infection prevention practices
• Respond rapidly to cardiac emergencies, interpret dysrhythmias, and manage arrhythmias in collaboration with the team
• Document care accurately in Epic and use medication systems such as Pyxis, Accudose, and Omnicell
• Support procedures and patient transfers including bedside trachs, bronchoscopy, and travel to imaging as needed
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including respiratory therapy, pharmacy, PT, and social work to optimize patient outcomes
• Float to other units within the OSU organization when required and contribute to unit flexibility

Qualifications

• Current Ohio RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience required
• BLS and ACLS required
• NIH (NIHSS) certification required
• Trauma Level II experience required; Surgical ICU, Trauma ICU, Burn ICU, or Transplant ICU experience preferred
• Experience with Epic documentation and medication dispensing systems (Pyxis, Accudose, Omnicell)
• Comfort with high-acuity skills such as CRRT familiarity, ventilator management, arterial/central line care, and blood administration
• Willingness to float within the OSU system and participate in call coverage

Knowledge & Skills

• Critical care nursing and advanced hemodynamic monitoring
• Ventilator management and respiratory support strategies
• Dysrhythmia interpretation and urgent cardiac management
• CRRT awareness and management of renal replacement therapy
• Infection prevention, isolation precautions, and PPE best practices
• Strong communication using SBAR and effective interdisciplinary collaboration
• Proficiency with Epic and common medication systems
• Procedural support skills including assisting with bedside trachs, bronchoscopy, and wound care
