Roles & Responsibilities

• Monitor and assess pediatric patients recovering from anesthesia, ensuring stable vital signs and safe recovery
• Provide compassionate, family-centered care and clear education to parents and caregivers
• Perform timely and accurate documentation of patient status, interventions and discharge criteria
• Collaborate with anesthesia, surgical teams and nursing staff to ensure smooth handoffs and continuity of care
• Manage pain, airway and post-operative complications promptly and escalate concerns when needed
• Prepare patients for safe transfer or discharge, following unit protocols and safety standards

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Missouri or Compact privilege as applicable)
• Experience or background in PACU and pediatric nursing (demonstrated comfort with post-anesthesia care)
• Current basic life support (BLS); pediatric advanced life support (PALS) recommended or preferred
• Strong clinical assessment skills, attention to detail and ability to work calmly in a fast-paced recovery setting
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach with families and the care team

Education

• Active RN license required

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-anesthesia care principles and pediatric recovery assessment
• Pediatric airway and pain management
• IV therapy and medication administration in a post-op setting
• Patient and family education with sensitivity to family-centered care
• Electronic health record documentation and accurate charting
• Infection prevention, safety protocols and handoff communication
