Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert, high-acuity cardiac and post-surgical critical care to CVICU patients
• Manage complex bedside procedures such as IABP, CRRT, ECMO support, and Swan-Ganz monitoring
• Perform and maintain sterile technique for central line dressing changes and Foley catheter insertions during SIMs Lab and on-unit care
• Recognize and respond to dysrhythmias quickly and accurately; pass required dysrhythmia competency testing
• Collaborate with intensivists, RT, pharmacy, and transplant teams to deliver coordinated patient care
• Serve as a reliable float resource to other ICUs and telemetry units while maintaining high standards of care
• Document thoroughly in Cerner EMR and communicate handoffs effectively
• Act as a professional team member, supporting charge nurse operations and high census workflow

Qualifications

• Active RN license (candidates who are licensing-in-progress may be considered; License to Submit: yes)
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience; CVICU or cardiac ICU experience strongly preferred
• Required certifications: BLS and ACLS (CCRN preferred)
• Must have Level I trauma experience as stated by the facility
• Strong IV skills; ability to perform IV insertion independently
• Competency in dysrhythmia recognition and willingness to pass a dysrhythmia exam (two attempts allowed)
• Willingness and ability to complete pass/fail SIMs Lab for Foley insertion and central line dressing changes
• Travel requirements: travel teams must provide their own vehicle
• Facility standards: natural hair color, no facial piercings, and men must be clean-shaven for fit testing

Education

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license required
• BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Cardiac surgery recovery and post-op management including CABG and TAVR
• Experience with CRRT, ECMO, IABP, and Swan-Ganz catheter management
• Familiarity with transplant patient care, thoracic surgery recovery, and high-acuity interventions
• Proficiency with Cerner electronic medical record and Phillips telemetry
• Strong dysrhythmia identification and ACLS-driven decision making
• Skilled in maintaining sterile field, wound care, and bedside procedural support
• Effective interdisciplinary communication and critical thinking in fast-paced ICU settings
