Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide attentive one-to-one labor support and high-quality bedside care during active labor
• Monitor fetal heart tracings and intervene per AWHONN fetal monitoring standards
• Assist the team with vaginal deliveries and support during C-sections in the OR
• Perform thorough newborn and postpartum assessments and deliver compassionate postpartum care
• Document patient care accurately and timely in Meditech/CPN EMR systems
• Collaborate with obstetricians, nursery staff, OB techs and unit leadership to optimize patient outcomes
• Respond promptly to obstetric emergencies using ACLS and NRP protocols when required
• Educate patients and families on labor progress, newborn care and postpartum recovery

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Virginia or compact licensure accepted/preferred)
• Minimum 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery nursing experience (required)
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP and AWHONN fetal monitoring
• Hands-on experience with vaginal deliveries, C-sections and newborn/postpartum care
• Familiarity with Meditech/CPN EMR and GE fetal monitors preferred
• Comfort working rotating schedules and every-third-weekend coverage

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — BSN preferred where available

Knowledge & Skills

• In-depth knowledge of fetal monitoring and interpretation
• Skilled in labor support, vaginal delivery and C-section assistance
• Newborn assessment and postpartum management expertise
• Proficient with Meditech/CPN documentation workflows
• Experience working in LDRP settings and managing high-volume labor units
• Strong teamwork, communication and critical-thinking skills in fast-paced settings
