Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality Med/Surg nursing care for a diverse patient population
• Assess and prioritize patient needs to ensure timely, safe interventions
• Perform IV insertion and manage IV therapies with confidence
• Deliver wound care and maintain surgical drains, nasogastric and chest tubes as required
• Monitor telemetry and interpret cardiac rhythms to detect changes quickly
• Document patient care accurately in Meditech and communicate clear bedside shift reports
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient-centered care
• Teach and engage patients and families in care plans to improve outcomes

Qualifications

• Active RN license (state-appropriate) - required
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification - required
• Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg nursing experience (as listed)
• Comfortable with telemetry monitoring and acute/trauma patient care
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize, multitask, and work independently on nights
• Willingness to float per unit policy and participate in required weekend coverage

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong Med/Surg clinical knowledge and patient prioritization skills
• Telemetry monitoring and rhythm recognition experience
• Proficient with Meditech documentation system
• Skills in IV insertion, wound care, and surgical drain maintenance
• Experience with nasogastric tubes, chest tube care, and PCA/feeding pumps
• Familiarity with common hospital equipment: IV pumps, SCDs, continuous pulse ox, EKG machines, bladder scanner
• Excellent communication, bedside reporting, and family-centered care
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, 34-bed trauma Med/Surg unit
