Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered care on a Med/Surg/Telemetry unit using Epic for all charting and documentation
• Monitor cardiac rhythms and respond to telemetry changes, participating in rapid response and code teams as needed
• Initiate and maintain IV therapy, perform phlebotomy and manage blood product administration safely and accurately
• Manage complex respiratory devices and therapies including tracheostomy care, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC and oxygen administration
• Perform wound care including Wound Vac management and care of surgical drains and PICC lines
• Care for patients with feeding tubes, ostomies and post-op needs following established protocols
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary services (PT, respiratory, pharmacy, social work) to create and execute comprehensive care plans
• Teach and support patients and families, ensuring safe discharge planning and continuity of care

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license for practice in Texas
• Minimum 1 year of recent Med/Surg or Telemetry nursing experience
• Experience with Epic charting required
• BLS required; ACLS preferred
• Comfort and experience with IV therapy, PICC management, central line blood draws and blood product administration
• Experience with tracheostomy care, chest tube management and respiratory support techniques preferred
• Ability to float between units and work a night schedule with rotating weekends
• Effective communication skills and ability to work within a collaborative interdisciplinary team

Knowledge & Skills

• Med/Surg and Telemetry clinical skills and patient assessment
• Cardiac monitoring and emergency response (rapid response/code team use)
• Epic electronic health record proficiency
• IV therapy, phlebotomy and central/peripheral line management
• Tracheostomy, chest tube and advanced respiratory device management (BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC)
• Wound care including Wound Vac and surgical drain management
• Isolation precautions, PPE and infection control practices
• Feeding tube and ostomy care
