Roles & Responsibilities

Prepare pediatric patients for surgery with compassion and attention to detail
Perform pre-operative assessments and document findings accurately
Collaborate with surgical teams, anesthesiology, and families to ensure safe handoffs
Provide age-appropriate education and emotional support to children and caregivers
Follow infection control and safety protocols to maintain a secure environment
Participate in orientation and training to stay current with unit procedures

Qualifications

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license — must be valid for Missouri practice
Experience or demonstrated competence in pre-operative nursing and pediatrics
Current BLS certification (or willingness to obtain during orientation)
Strong clinical assessment skills and ability to work calmly with children and families
Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Education

Nursing degree (ADN or BSN) or equivalent nursing education

Knowledge & Skills

Knowledge of pre-op assessment, pediatric vitals, and perioperative safety
Skill in patient/family education and age-appropriate communication
Ability to document clearly in electronic medical records
Familiarity with sterile technique, infection prevention, and safety protocols
Comfort collaborating across multidisciplinary teams
