Roles & Responsibilities

• Monitor patients closely in the immediate post-anesthesia period and respond to changes in condition
• Assess airway, breathing, circulation and pain; intervene promptly and document care
• Provide effective handoffs and collaborate with anesthesia, surgical teams, and other clinicians
• Administer medications and manage IV therapy according to orders and protocols
• Educate patients and families on recovery expectations and discharge instructions
• Maintain precise, timely documentation in the patient record and escalate concerns when needed

Qualifications

• Current RN license in Louisiana or eligibility to obtain one
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Previous PACU, post-anesthesia, or med-surg recovery experience preferred (1+ year is a plus)
• Strong assessment skills, critical thinking, and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
• Comfortable working with interdisciplinary teams and communicating clearly

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
• BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-anesthesia patient assessment and recovery protocols
• Airway management basics and monitoring of vital signs
• Pain management principles and safe medication administration
• Familiarity with electronic health records and documentation best practices
• Ability to triage and escalate patient concerns effectively
• Teamwork, patient-centered care, and strong communication skills
