Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, patient-centered nursing care on a med-surg unit, focusing on assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
• Administer medications and treatments accurately while monitoring patient responses
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care and advocate for patient needs
• Perform thorough documentation to maintain clear, timely patient records
• Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition and escalate when appropriate
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and discharge plans to support positive outcomes
• Contribute to unit initiatives that improve patient safety, quality of care, and team workflows

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana or eligibility for state licensure
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced certifications such as ACLS may be preferred depending on unit needs
• Clinical experience or comfort practicing on a medical-surgical unit; new graduates with strong clinical preparation are encouraged to inquire
• Strong assessment, IV, medication administration, and documentation skills
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and time-management abilities
• Ability to work 12.5-hour shifts and adapt to unit scheduling requirements

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid knowledge of med-surg patient care principles and common diagnoses
• Proficiency in medication administration and recognition of adverse reactions
• Familiarity with electronic medical records and accurate charting practices
• Skilled in patient assessment, prioritization, and critical thinking
• Comfortable collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and participating in care planning
