Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess patients regularly and respond to overnight changes in condition with confidence
• Administer medications and treatments safely and according to policy
• Monitor vital signs, labs, and clinical status and escalate concerns promptly
• Coordinate patient care and handoffs between night and day teams for smooth continuity
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient progress clearly in the EHR
• Provide patient and family education with compassion and clarity
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support discharge planning and goals of care
• Respond effectively to emergencies and support unit safety overnight

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Illinois license or compact RN as applicable)
• Experience in Medical-Surgical nursing; previous med/surg experience preferred
• Current BLS certification required; ACLS encouraged or preferred
• Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced setting
• Comfort working night shift and participating in weekend and holiday rotations
• Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented attitude

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid knowledge of med-surg nursing practices and patient assessment
• Medication administration and IV therapy competencies
• Proficient documentation in electronic health records
• Ability to recognize and act on changes in patient status
• Strong time management and multitasking skills during busy night shifts
• Collaborative communication with nurses, providers, and support staff
