Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and prioritize Med/Surg patients to deliver safe, timely care
• Perform IV starts and manage IV therapy with confidence
• Provide basic wound care and maintain surgical drains
• Manage nasogastric and chest tubes when required
• Continuously monitor telemetry and respond to cardiac changes
• Document patient care accurately and promptly in Meditech
• Conduct bedside shift report to ensure smooth handoffs and patient-centered care
• Collaborate with unit team, techs, and ancillary staff to support recovery and discharge planning

Qualifications

• Active RN license (required)
• BLS certification (required)
• Med/Surg clinical experience (explicitly requested)
• Comfortable and experienced with IV starts, wound care, and surgical drain maintenance
• Familiarity with nasogastric and chest tube management
• Experience with telemetry monitoring
• Proven ability to prioritize, multitask, and provide compassionate bedside care
• Willingness to float per unit rotation policy (contract staff typically float first)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong Med/Surg nursing knowledge and patient assessment skills
• IV therapy and vascular access techniques
• Basic wound care principles and dressing management
• Care and troubleshooting for surgical drains, NG tubes, and chest tubes
• Telemetry interpretation and monitoring best practices
• Meditech documentation and electronic charting workflows
• Effective bedside communication and shift report skills
• Ability to work with IV pumps, feeding pumps, PCA, and pulse oximetry equipment
