Roles & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and deliver nursing care for long-term care residents using evidence-based practice
  • Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and document findings accurately in the EHR
  • Administer medications and therapeutics safely and monitor resident responses
  • Develop, implement, and update individualized care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team
  • Provide education and counseling to residents and families to promote healing and self-care
  • Lead and supervise CNAs, LPNs, and other support staff; act as charge nurse when needed
  • Respond calmly and effectively in emergencies and make sound clinical judgments
  • Participate in staff orientation, in-services, and quality improvement activities

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing (BSN, ADN, or Diploma)
  • Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state (Direct hire must have applied for Alaska license before start date; agency staff must have an active Alaska license)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA)
  • Clinical Competency required within 3 months of hire and every three years
  • High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually
  • Minimum 1-2 years of nursing experience preferred
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs and perform required physical tasks of the role

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate degree in Nursing (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing acceptable
  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong nursing assessment, documentation, and care planning skills
  • Medication administration knowledge including side effects and monitoring
  • Infection control practices and emergency response capability
  • Proficiency with EHR documentation and charting
  • Ability to lead, delegate, and supervise interdisciplinary team members
  • Good oral and written communication; able to educate residents and families
  • Familiarity with basic and specialized equipment such as AEDs
