Roles & Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver safe, therapeutic nursing care for long-term care residents using established care plans and physician orders
- Perform thorough nursing assessments, document findings in the EHR, and develop/revise individualized care plans
- Administer medications and treatments accurately, monitoring for effects and documenting responses
- Provide leadership on shift: delegate, supervise, and support CNAs, LPNs, and other staff to ensure quality resident care
- Respond calmly and effectively in emergencies and make sound clinical judgments independently during your shift
- Educate residents and families about conditions, treatments, and discharge planning to promote successful transitions
- Participate in care conferences, interdisciplinary collaboration, and unit goal-setting to improve resident outcomes
- Complete mandatory competencies, maintain certifications and licensure, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement
Qualifications
- Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Alaska or another U.S. state (Direct hires must have applied for Alaska license before start date; agency staff must have active Alaska license)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Clinical Competency (SEARHC) required within 3 months of hire and every three years
- High Risk Competency (SEARHC) required within 3 months of hire and annually thereafter
- High school diploma or equivalent required; graduate of accredited school of nursing (BSN, ADN, or Diploma)
- Minimum 1-2 years of nursing experience preferred, ideally with long-term care or multisystem disease experience
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing (BSN, ADN, or Diploma in Nursing)
- High school diploma or equivalent
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong nursing assessment, care planning, and documentation skills (EHR proficiency)
- Medication administration knowledge and pharmaceutical awareness of effects and side effects
- Infection control practices and ability to implement standards of care
- Ability to lead and delegate effectively as charge/contact RN
- Competence with basic and specialized equipment (AED familiarity)
- Excellent communication, patient/family education, and teamwork skills
- Ability to manage psychosocial needs and de-escalate volatile situations when needed
