Roles & Responsibilities

• Collect and accurately document patient information and specimens within the EMR, keeping charts tidy and compliant
• Perform point-of-care testing (POCT), label and transport specimens per protocol
• Prepare patients and assist with routine exams, minor procedures, and radiology exams when competencies are met
• Administer immunizations and injections as ordered by the provider
• Monitor and record vital signs and recognize changes requiring prompt intervention
• Assist providers and clinic nurses during visits, ensuring smooth clinic flow and excellent patient experience
• Provide cross-coverage and collaborate with the care team to maintain efficient patient throughput
• Participate in staff meetings and contribute to unit goals and quality improvement

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) OR EMT III required
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Current AK Certification OR current AK Paramedic Certification OR a Nursing degree from an accredited institution may be accepted in lieu of the above
• Experience in a healthcare setting preferred
• Strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills
• Ability to operate common clinic equipment (BP cuff, pulse oximeter, EKG, cardiac monitor, manual defibrillator)

Education

• High school diploma or GED required
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred; EMT III or Nursing degree accepted as alternatives
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• AK Certification or AK Paramedic Certification accepted

Knowledge & Skills

• Specimen collection, labeling, and transport protocols
• Point-of-care testing (POCT) procedures
• Immunization administration and documentation
• EMR charting and medical database use
• Age-appropriate vital signs and patient observation
• Basic life-saving procedures and emergency response
• Ability to train others and provide cross-coverage in a team environment
• Familiarity with clinic workflows and patient visit processes
