Roles & Responsibilities

Screen, diagnose, and provide treatment or consultation for patients with speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing disorders
Perform dysphagia management and conduct FEES or other endoscopic swallowing evaluations
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers, case managers and rehab teams to plan safe discharges
Document assessments, plans of care, and progress notes clearly and timely
Operate and maintain specialized equipment such as endoscope, vitalstim, electrolarynx and augmentative communication devices
Provide patient- and family-centered education and participate in care coordination

Qualifications

Current Hawaii State Speech-Language Pathologist license required
Current ASHA certification required
Current BLS/CPR (HCP) certification required
Completion of a FEES course prior to hire or within six (6) months of start
Minimum one (1) year acute care SLP experience preferred
Prior FEES clinical experience and MBSImP preferred

Education

ASHA certification (CCC-SLP) and current state licensure required
FEES course completion (or completion within 6 months of hire)

Knowledge & Skills

Adult swallowing assessment and dysphagia management
Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES)
MBSImP protocol familiarity
Experience with VitalStim and augmentative communication devices
Comfort working in a fast-paced inpatient acute care environment
Strong multidisciplinary team collaboration and clinical documentation skills
