Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to laboring patients
• Monitor maternal and fetal status using fetal monitoring and clinical assessment
• Support patients and families through labor, delivery and immediate postpartum care
• Respond promptly to obstetric emergencies and escalate appropriately
• Collaborate with physicians, midwives and interdisciplinary team members for seamless care
• Document assessments, interventions and outcomes accurately in the medical record
• Educate patients and families on labor progress, postpartum care and newborn basics

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Louisiana or eligibility through compact RN provisions
• Current BLS certification required; NRP and/or ACLS preferred or obtainable
• Previous Labor & Delivery or obstetric nursing experience preferred
• Comfort with electronic health records and accurate clinical documentation
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively under pressure
• Proof of immunizations and any facility-required health screenings

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
• BSN preferred where available, continuing education encouraged

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in fetal monitoring interpretation and labor assessment
• Proficient in maternal and neonatal safety protocols
• Strong triage and critical thinking skills in fast-paced environments
• Ability to provide patient-centered education and emotional support
• Teamwork, clear communication and effective handoff practices
• Familiarity with common L&D equipment and emergency response workflows
