Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based care to laboring patients and their newborns
• Monitor maternal and fetal status using appropriate assessment tools and intervene as needed
• Collaborate closely with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesiology, and neonatal teams to optimize outcomes
• Perform skilled clinical tasks such as fetal monitoring, medication administration, and IV therapy
• Educate patients and families about labor progress, delivery options, and postpartum care
• Document care accurately and promptly in the medical record to support continuity and quality
• Respond quickly and effectively in emergent situations to ensure patient safety

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted RN license in Louisiana or eligibility to obtain one
• BLS (Basic Life Support) required
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) and/or ACLS preferred or obtained soon after hire
• Previous Labor & Delivery clinical experience preferred
• Strong assessment, communication, and teamwork skills
• Ability to work 12.5-hour clinical shifts and adapt to unit needs

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Fetal monitoring and interpretation of electronic fetal heart tracings
• Labor support techniques and pain management modalities
• Postpartum and newborn assessment skills
• IV insertion and medication administration best practices
• Effective patient and family education and cultural sensitivity
• Ability to prioritize and respond in urgent obstetric situations
