Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive, compassionate care to laboring patients throughout labor and delivery
• Monitor maternal and fetal status using appropriate assessment tools and intervene as needed
• Collaborate closely with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesia, and neonatal teams to ensure safe outcomes
• Educate patients and families on labor processes, procedures, and postpartum care
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient progress clearly and timely
• Respond rapidly to obstetric emergencies and assist in rapid escalation of care when necessary
• Support breastfeeding initiation and provide postpartum teaching to promote maternal-infant bonding

Qualifications

• Current RN licensure in Louisiana or eligible for licensure
• Active BLS certification required; NRP and/or ACLS preferred
• Clinical experience in Labor & Delivery preferred (new grads with strong clinical internship experience are encouraged to apply)
• Strong assessment skills, critical thinking, and ability to prioritize in high-acuity situations
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills with a patient-centered approach

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of labor and delivery practices, fetal monitoring, and obstetric emergency protocols
• Skilled in maternal/fetal assessment and interpretation of monitoring strips
• Proficient in electronic medical record documentation and charting
• Ability to work calmly under pressure and lead during time-sensitive events
• Familiarity with postpartum care, newborn transition, and breastfeeding support
