Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality ICU care for adult and adolescent patients (>15 years) with complex diagnoses
• Titrate vasoactive and sedative drips safely and according to protocol
• Interpret telemetry and EKG strips using Draeger centralized monitoring and act quickly on critical changes
• Manage and troubleshoot ventilators, high-flow devices, CPAP/BiPAP and other respiratory support
• Document accurately and efficiently in EPIC to ensure continuity and quality of care
• Respond as an active team member on codes and Rapid Response Teams and assist the charge nurse when needed
• Collaborate with physicians, fellows, residents and interdisciplinary teammates to develop and execute patient-centered plans
• Participate in orientation, skills checks and pass the unit’s competency exam during orientation

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license (eligible to practice in Nebraska)
• Minimum 2 years recent ICU experience required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS at time of submit
• Valid driver’s license required at submittal (used for 50-mile radius verification)
• Ability to pass a unit skills exam (open-book) with required score during orientation
• Willingness to adhere to facility policies (e.g., no artificial nails in patient care areas)
• Flexible to float to other inpatient units (excluding Maternity/NICU) and meet RTO requirements

Education

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required

Knowledge & Skills

• ICU-level assessment, critical thinking and complex patient management
• Titration of drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics and sedatives
• Telemetry and EKG interpretation (no monitor techs on unit — RN reads own strips)
• Ventilator management and troubleshooting across a range of respiratory equipment
• Familiarity with EPIC charting and acute care documentation
• Experience or comfort with advanced devices (CRRT, Impella, IABP, Swan-Ganz) — training available
• Experience with invasive lines (A-lines, CVP), ICP monitoring and rapid transfusion devices
• Strong teamwork, communication and ability to work in a fast-paced tertiary care environment
