Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality critical care to ICU patients, focusing on neurology and post-neurosurgery needs
• Manage advanced therapies such as CRRT and bedside EVDs, and monitor A-lines with precision
• Deliver specialized post-thrombectomy and TPA patient care following established protocols
• Document patient care accurately and efficiently using Cerner
• Collaborate with neuro teams, physicians and multidisciplinary staff to optimize patient outcomes
• Participate in self-scheduling and support unit staffing needs, including weekend coverage
• Educate patients and families about care plans and recovery expectations
• Adhere to ACLS and BLS standards and lead resuscitation efforts when required

Qualifications

• Active RN license (eligible to work in North Carolina or compact licensure as applicable)
• Minimum 2 years of ICU / critical care nursing experience (neuro ICU experience strongly preferred)
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications required; NIHSS certification preferred
• Demonstrated experience with CRRT, bedside EVD care, A-line monitoring and post-neurosurgery patients
• Comfortable documenting in Cerner and using unit equipment such as Baxter pumps
• Strong assessment, critical thinking and communication skills for high-acuity care

Knowledge & Skills

• Critical care nursing principles and advanced neurology/post-thrombectomy care
• Proficiency with Cerner electronic documentation
• Hands-on skills with CRRT and bedside EVDs
• Familiarity with A-line monitoring and vasoactive medication management
• Ability to work at a 1:2 patient ratio in a busy 12-bed neuro ICU
• Team-focused approach and ability to float to other ICUs or step-down units as needed
