Shift Type: Rotating day 12-hour shifts (examples: 5:00 AM - 5:30 PM and 8:00 AM - 8:30 PM). 3x12 schedule (day-focused), shifts rotate between opener and closer; includes on-call responsibilities and weekend rotation (every 3rd–4th weekend).

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality pre-operative assessments and patient education, ensuring each patient arrives at procedure time informed and prepared
• Deliver focused PACU care through vigilant monitoring, pain management, and timely interventions for immediate postoperative needs
• Monitor hemodynamics with cardiac monitoring, arterial lines, and pulmonary artery (Swan-Ganz) devices, recognizing and escalating dysrhythmias and hemodynamic instability
• Manage invasive lines and chest tubes safely, including blood product administration and ABG interpretation to guide care
• Perform critical airway assessments and support respiratory needs postoperatively
• Use Epic for accurate, timely charting and communication with the interdisciplinary care team
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiology, respiratory therapy, pharmacy and other services to coordinate seamless perioperative care
• Serve as a patient advocate — ensuring consent, reviewing history & physical, and supporting family communication during stressful events

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure (state requirements applicable)
• Minimum 2 years of relevant nursing experience (pre-op, post-op or PACU experience required/preferred as noted)
• Current BLS certification (required)
• ACLS certification preferred
• Epic charting experience (required)
• Experience with cardiovascular or surgical populations, Level I trauma experience preferred
• Previous charge nurse or leadership experience preferred
• Comfort with 1:1 patient ratios in high-acuity perioperative settings

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Pre-op and post-op clinical assessment and education
• PACU best practices and phase I recovery care
• Epic electronic health record proficiency
• Cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia recognition, and CVP/arterial line management
• Pulmonary artery (Swan-Ganz) monitoring and ABG interpretation
• Chest tube management and airway assessment
• IV therapy, central line/PICC management, blood product administration
• Familiarity with cardiac and vascular surgery cases (CABG, TAVR, EVAR, bypasses, ablation)
• Medication knowledge including antiarrhythmics, anticoagulation, IV vasopressors, and emergency meds
• Strong interdisciplinary communication and patient education skills
