Nuclear Medicine Technologist
Location: Bakersfield, CA
Start Date: 04-27-2026

Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (Day); rotating on-call after 4:30 PM weekdays, rotating weekends and holidays
Hours per Week: 40
Candidate Pay Rate: $67 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform nuclear medicine studies including SPECT, cardiac imaging, bone scans, gastric emptying and bleed studies with accuracy and compassion
- Operate and optimize GE imaging equipment to acquire high-quality diagnostic images
- Manage patient preparation, positioning and safety while following radiation safety protocols
- Use Radnet and Merge Unity PACS to archive, retrieve and share images with the radiology team
- Collaborate with radiologists and the allied health team to ensure timely, accurate reporting
- Document procedures and patient data in Cerner with attention to detail and regulatory compliance
- Float to nearby Mercy Downtown as needed (approximately 6.5 miles) to support department workflow
- Participate in rotating on-call coverage, responding professionally to after-hours and weekend needs
Qualifications
- California Nuclear Medicine Technologist License (CA NMTL) required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
- Minimum of 2 years' nuclear medicine technologist experience
- Proven experience with SPECT and cardiac/radionuclide imaging studies
- Comfortable using PACS systems (Radnet & Merge Unity) and Cerner charting
- Ability to float to nearby facilities and participate in rotating on-call coverage
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative radiology team
Education
- California NMT license (CA NMTL) and completion of an accredited nuclear medicine technologist program
- BLS certification
- High school diploma or GED minimum; additional technologist training preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Expertise in nuclear medicine procedures: SPECT, cardiac imaging, bone scans, gastric emptying
- Proficiency with PACS (Radnet & Merge Unity) and Cerner electronic charting
- Hands-on experience operating GE imaging equipment
- Solid understanding of radiation safety, patient positioning and image quality principles
- Ability to manage 5-10 scans per day while maintaining excellent patient care
- Good clinical judgment, time management and teamwork skills
