Roles & Responsibilities
- Coordinate and perform a full range of nursing care for patients of all ages in the ED and acute care settings
- Make independent clinical decisions during your shift and maintain full accountability for patient care
- Supervise and delegate tasks to CNA/Tech staff to ensure safe, efficient patient care
- Assess, document, and communicate patient conditions, treatments, and responses clearly and promptly
- Implement and follow infection control procedures and isolation techniques to protect patients and staff
- Assist in developing and maintaining nursing policies, care plans, procedure manuals, and training materials
- Respond calmly and effectively in emergencies and provide appropriate emergency measures
- Maintain medication, supply, and equipment levels and complete administrative and regulatory documentation
Qualifications
- Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse license (Alaska) or another U.S. state — direct hires must have applied for Alaska license before start date; agency staff must have an active Alaska license
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS required (or must be obtained within 6 months of hire and maintained thereafter)
- Clinical Competency and High Risk Competency (required within designated timeframes per employer)
- TNCC preferred (required for ED nurses)
- Ability to work independently, make sound clinical judgments, and supervise others
- High school diploma or equivalent required; graduate of an accredited school of nursing (see Education)
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing — Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), or Nursing Diploma accepted
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong patient assessment, documentation, and medication administration skills
- Knowledge of emergency department and acute care nursing practices and procedures
- Familiarity with infection control standards and isolation techniques
- Experience with delegation/supervision and working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
- Comfort using Electronic Medical Records and transcribing physician orders accurately
- Ability to manage stressful/emergent situations with composure and sound judgment
