Roles & Responsibilities
- Coordinate and provide comprehensive nursing care for patients of all ages in an emergency/acute care setting
- Perform patient assessments, triage, medication administration, and EMR documentation with accuracy and compassion
- Make independent clinical decisions during your shift and escalate to leadership when appropriate
- Supervise and delegate to CNA/Tech staff, ensuring safe and effective patient care
- Maintain infection control standards and ensure compliance with hospital policies and nursing procedures
- Participate in developing and implementing department policies, care plans, and quality improvement initiatives
- Complete required administrative tasks such as incident reports, charting, and staff reporting
- Support a positive patient/family experience by communicating clearly and advocating for patient rights
Qualifications
- Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state (Direct hire must have applied for Alaska license before start date; agency staff must hold an active Alaska license)
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN, ADN, or Diploma)
- Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred (required for ED nurses)
- Clinical Competency Assessment and High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and maintained per schedule
- Ability to perform physical demands of the role (may include lifting up to 50 lbs) and demonstrate emotional stability under stress
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and emergency response skills
- Experience in acute care, emergency department, or long-term care is preferred but not required
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) OR Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) OR Diploma in Nursing from an accredited program
- High school diploma or equivalent (as a minimum prerequisite)
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient assessment and triage expertise
- Medication administration and safe documentation in the EMR
- Infection control practices and isolation techniques
- Emergency decision-making and response in fast-paced settings
- Supervision and delegation of nursing assistants and techs
- Familiarity with nursing policies, standards of care, and regulatory guidelines
- Strong interpersonal skills to work across departments and with families
