Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care for MedSurg, telemetry and orthopedic patients including post-op joint replacements and trauma cases
• Assess patients continuously and prioritize interventions to manage multiple admissions and discharges in a busy unit
• Safely titrate drips such as heparin, lidocaine and ketamine according to protocols
• Manage PCA pumps and other set-rate infusions with attention to patient safety
• Collaborate with charge nurses, tele/monitor techs and patient care techs to deliver coordinated care
• Perform thorough documentation in EPIC, ensuring accurate and timely charting
• Practice hourly rounding and responsiveness to patient needs to enhance satisfaction and outcomes
• Float to other MedSurg areas as needed while maintaining high standards of care

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for submission
• BLS (AHA) required at time of submittal
• ACLS preferred
• Minimum ~2 years of relevant MedSurg/Telemetry/Orthopedic nursing experience preferred
• Comfort with telemetry awareness and basic rhythm recognition
• Experience with IV medication titration and PCA pump management
• Valid driver’s license required at submittal (used for 50-mile radius rule)
• Ability to pass orientation skills exam (90% pass required) and complete unit-specific orientation

Knowledge & Skills

• MedSurg nursing fundamentals and orthopedic postoperative care
• Telemetry awareness and basic ECG strip interpretation
• IV medication titration (heparin, lidocaine, ketamine)
• PCA pump operation and management
• EPIC electronic charting proficiency
• Patient assessment and prioritization in a busy acute care setting
• Familiarity with mechanical lifts and safe patient handling
• Strong teamwork, communication, and cultural sensitivity (serves Spanish, Karen, Burmese populations)
