Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive echocardiogram studies including Transthoracic (TTE), Transesophageal (TEE), 2-D, M-Mode and Color-flow Doppler with precision and care
• Conduct exercise and pharmacologic stress echocardiography and other cardiac diagnostic tests such as EKG, Holter prep/monitoring and cardiac stress testing
• Operate and maintain cardiac diagnostic equipment and computer analysis systems to produce accurate diagnostic data for cardiology physicians
• Use hospital information systems to schedule studies, document procedures and ensure correct charging and billing
• Apply strict infection control and aseptic techniques, including proper disinfection of equipment
• Provide age-specific patient care across the lifespan, with demonstrated competency in neonatal and pediatric echocardiography
• Serve as a resource and preceptor to students from contracted colleges and universities, offering clinical teaching and mentorship
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff and other departments to ensure timely, high-quality diagnostic services

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) required
• Successful completion of an echocardiography certification program and/or at least 2 years hands-on echocardiography experience required
• Preferred: Cardiovascular Sonography certificate and extensive hospital-based echocardiography experience
• Preferred: Extensive pediatric and neonatal echocardiography experience
• Comfortable using hospital information systems for scheduling, processing and charging
• Strong communication skills and experience precepting or teaching students

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• Certificate Program or Cardiovascular Sonography certificate (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Echocardiography techniques (TTE, TEE, 2-D, M-Mode, Color-flow Doppler)
• Exercise and pharmacologic stress echocardiography
• EKG acquisition and interpretation basics
• Holter monitoring setup, monitoring and analysis
• Cardiac stress testing procedures and equipment
• Operation and troubleshooting of echocardiographs, stress systems and Holter devices
• Infection control practices and equipment disinfection
• Use of hospital information systems for scheduling, documentation and charging
• Patient-centered care across all ages including neonatal and pediatric populations
• Clinical teaching and preceptorship skills
