Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide age-specific preventive and curative periodontal and dental hygiene care for infants through geriatrics.
• Perform oral examinations, periodontal therapy, coronal polishing, topical fluoride application, and dental radiography as indicated.
• Measure and chart periodontal pockets and maintain accurate patient records including vitals (pulse, blood pressure, temperature).
• Deliver clear, compassionate patient education on oral hygiene, home care, and nutrition to reduce disease and improve outcomes.
• Manage patient scheduling to keep clinics running smoothly and minimize wait times.
• Coordinate and lead dental prevention activities such as sealant clinics, Head Start clinics, and community health fairs.
• Maintain hygienist supplies and ensure proper instrument sterilization and infection-control practices.
• Collaborate with the dental team and perform other duties as assigned to support patient-centered care.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program (required)
• Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
• Pass National Board Examination for Dental Hygienists
• Active Dental Hygiene License in any U.S. state; Alaska license preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 45 days of start and maintained thereafter
• Clinical Competency Assessment required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
• High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually
• High school diploma or GED

Education

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program (required)
• Bachelor's Degree (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of infection control techniques and instrument sterilization
• Understanding of dental and periodontal disease processes and appropriate treatment therapies
• Proficient in dental radiography and use of dental instruments
• Excellent oral and written communication skills for patient education
• Accurate clinical judgment and strong manual dexterity
• Ability to sit and work over patients for extended periods
