Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare patients and assist the RN and physician with diagnostic and interventional cardiac and peripheral catheterization procedures
• Set up procedure rooms and equipment to ensure safe, efficient delivery of care prior to procedures
• Obtain and secure hemostasis after procedures and demonstrate proficiency in vascular access management
• Operate and accurately utilize x-ray imaging equipment while ensuring radiation safety compliance during procedures
• Accurately monitor, document and enter procedural data in the MacLab system
• Perform room turnover following infection control protocols after every procedure
• Administer intra-coronary medications per Bayhealth and unit policies when indicated
• Participate in continuing education, maintain required certifications, and pursue specialty certification (RCIS) as encouraged

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Radiologic Sciences OR graduation from an accredited Cardiovascular Technology program (required)
• RCIS if graduate from a Cardiovascular Technology program OR ARRT (RT) if graduate from a Radiologic Technologist program (required within specified timelines if not already held)
• ACLS and BLS certifications (must obtain within 90 days if not currently held)
• Eighteen (18) months of diagnostic radiology experience OR completion of an accredited radiologic/cardiovascular program with a Program Director and Clinical Site Preceptor letter
• Preferred: 2 years of Cardiac Cath Lab experience performing diagnostic, interventional and electrophysiology procedures
• Familiarity with cath lab policies, infection control, and intra-coronary medication administration

Education

• Required: Associate Degree in Radiologic Sciences OR Associate Degree/graduate from an accredited Cardiovascular Technology program
• Preferred: Bachelor Degree in Radiologic Technology OR Bachelor's Degree/graduate from an accredited program in Cardiovascular Technology

Knowledge & Skills

• Cardiac catheterization and peripheral interventions
• Radiography and x-ray imaging operation and safety
• Radiation safety practices and compliance
• Proficiency with the MacLab documentation system
• Hemostasis techniques and vascular access management
• Infection control and procedure room turnover
• Administration and handling of intra-coronary medications
• Electrophysiology and interventional lab experience (preferred)
