Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-acuity critical care for ICU patients, including ventilated and post-CABG patients
• Manage ventilators and perform advanced hemodynamic monitoring to optimize patient outcomes
• Deliver timely, hands-on bedside care and conduct thorough bedside shift reports with whiteboard updates
• Collaborate closely with intensivists, cardiothoracic teams and the multidisciplinary care team
• Document patient status and interventions accurately in Meditech (or designated EHR)
• Participate in specialized therapies when needed, including ECMO and transplant-related care
• Adhere to unit policies, floating guidelines and safety protocols while maintaining compassionate patient-centered care
• Help maintain unit excellence in a Magnet and Beacon-award environment

Qualifications

• Active Texas RN license required (temporary licenses will not be accepted)
• Minimum 2 years of recent ICU / critical care nursing experience
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Demonstrated experience with ventilator management and hemodynamic monitoring
• Comfortable caring for post-CABG and other complex cardiac patients
• Ability to work rotating 12-hour night shifts and rotating weekends
• Meditech experience preferred; CVICU, ECMO, and heart transplant experience a strong plus
• Strong teamwork, reliable bedside shift reporting, and professional communication skills

Knowledge & Skills

• Advanced knowledge of ventilator management and ventilatory weaning
• Proficiency in hemodynamic monitoring and titration of vasoactive drips
• Experience with post-operative cardiac care (CABG, transplant) and CVICU protocols
• Familiarity with ECMO fundamentals and high-acuity cardiovascular interventions
• CPR competence and ACLS/BLS application in emergency situations
• Clinical documentation skills in Meditech or similar electronic health records
• Critical thinking, prioritization, and the ability to act decisively under pressure
• Excellent communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
