Contract Type: Travel Contract

Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour shifts, primarily Nights 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM (NOC); unit also schedules 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM, 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM and 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM as needed. Schedule includes every-other weekend and every-other holiday; self-scheduling based on seniority with occasional floating assignments.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric nursing care to adolescent and adult inpatients
• Perform thorough patient assessments and develop individualized care plans
• Use strong de-escalation techniques to maintain a safe, therapeutic environment
• Administer and document treatments and interventions accurately in EPIC
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members (OT, social work, techs) to coordinate care and discharge planning
• Support unit safety procedures including seclusion and mechanical restraint protocols when required
• Assist with 15-minute rounds and direct patient engagement — be present, hands-on, and involved
• Float within the hospital as needed to provide one-to-one support or help on other units

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the state of North Dakota (or compact RN license where applicable)
• Minimum 2 years of acute/inpatient psychiatric nursing experience preferred
• Current BLS certification required; CPI preferred
• Comfortable with inpatient psych populations including adolescents and adults
• Familiarity with EPIC charting system strongly preferred
• Strong verbal communication and de-escalation skills
• Able to work union scheduling model and float when needed

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) accepted; BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Expertise in psychiatric nursing and acute/inpatient care practices
• Skilled in de-escalation, patient assessment, and seclusion/restraint procedures
• Knowledge of common mental health diagnoses: depression, anxiety, bipolar, psychosis, substance use
• Familiarity with EPIC electronic health record workflows
• Comfort working with CPAP/BiPAP and basic respiratory support (RT available)
• Team-oriented mindset with strong communication and collaboration skills
